Description
The Atlas 50005234 is an N Scale model of the Penn Central's Class X72 50' Boxcar, specifically #229124. It's painted in a beautiful jade green and white color scheme with a large logo. Note that the picture might show a different road number. In 1972, the Penn Central and Western Pacific ordered smooth - sided box cars from US Railroad Manufacturing in Illinois. The PC's 574 - car order became the 'X72' design, featuring smooth welded sides and a large 6 - panel Superior door for easy forklift access. The next year, they ordered 500 slightly larger X72A box cars. These cars were used for general purposes across the North American railroad system. After PC's downfall in the late 70s, Conrail took them over, and they remained in service until the 90s. Later, most were sold to Canadian National, short lines, or scrapped. By the 2000s, most X72s were out of service, but some still run in Mexico and South America. The X72 and X72A had many paint variations, like Conrail's 'Buy And Hold US Savings Bonds' scheme. Some cars even stayed in PC green for years. This model has crisp painting and printing, a durable body, free - rolling trucks, a detailed brakewheel, and knuckle couplers. It'll look great in any of Atlas's offered schemes, whether you need just a few or a large block for your train.

Using this Atlas N Scale 50' Boxcar PC Class X72 is easy. Just place it on your model train track and let it roll along with your other cars. When handling it, be gentle to avoid any damage to the detailed parts like the brakewheel and couplers. For maintenance, you can use a soft, dry cloth to clean the body and remove any dust. If there's some stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but make sure to dry it thoroughly. Keep it in a cool, dry place when not in use to prevent any warping or damage to the paint. Also, regularly check the trucks and couplers to ensure they're rolling and connecting smoothly. This will help your boxcar stay in great shape and keep running well on your model railroad.
