Description
This Atlas N Scale 50' Boxcar CR - Conrail #269198 comes in brown, white, and blue, featuring the US Savings Bonds logo. Note that the picture might show a different road number. In 1972, the Penn Central and Western Pacific ordered smooth - sided box cars from US Railroad Manufacturing in Illinois. The PC's 574 - car order became the 'X72' design with smooth welded sides and a large 6 - panel Superior door for forklift use. The next year, they ordered 500 slightly larger X72A box cars. These cars were used for general purposes across North American railroads. After PC's end in the late 70s, Conrail took them over and used them until the 90s. Later, Conrail sold most of the X72/72A fleet. By the 2000s, most X72 box cars were out of service, but some still run in Mexico and South America. The X72 and X72A were significant during the PC and Conrail eras with various paint schemes, like the famous 'Buy And Hold US Savings Bonds' one. Some cars even stayed in PC green. Whether you need a few or many for your train, the X72 in Atlas's schemes will look great. Features include crisp painting and printing, a durable body, free - rolling trucks, a detailed brakewheel, and knuckle couplers.

Using this Atlas N Scale 50' Boxcar CR is easy. You can simply place it on your N - scale train track to add to your train layout. When handling the boxcar, be gentle to avoid any damage to the delicate parts like the brakewheel and couplers. For maintenance, use a soft, dry cloth to clean the body of the boxcar. If there's a lot of dust, you can use a mild soap solution, but make sure to dry it thoroughly afterwards. Store the boxcar in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent the paint from fading. Also, check the trucks and couplers regularly to ensure they are rolling and connecting smoothly.
