Atlas 20005798 GARX Insulated 50' Boxcar (Reefer) NW Norfolk Western #51502 HO Scale

The Atlas 20005798 is an HO scale insulated 50' boxcar (reefer) of Norfolk Western #51502. Note that the picture might show a different road number. These AAR class bunkerless refrigerator cars were a joint creation of General American and Evans Products, starting production in the early 1950s. They sported two large horizontal panels beside a 7’7” door, and the horizontal rivet strip joining the panels gave them a very distinct look. With fewer seams than regular box cars, they were more resistant to rust and leakage. By 1959, over 1,000 of these boxcars had rolled off the production line. Features include an 8’ plug with separate latch bars, overhanging diagonal panel roofs, accurate postwar ends, and precise painting and printing.
