Description
This Atlas HO scale model train, the DASH 8 - 40C Canadian National #2028, features front and rear ditch lights, DCC & Sound, and comes in red and black colors. The picture might show a different road number. First built for Union Pacific in the late 1980s by General Electric, these 4,000 hp six - axle diesel locomotives are still in service in North America. They have an enlarged exhaust stack and dynamic brake grids in a square - like unit behind the cab with an enlarged equipment blower fan. The 4,000hp Dash 8 - 40CW, produced from 1989 to 1993, introduced GE’s wide - nose “North American Safety Cab,” a common sight on US railroads. Major railroads like Conrail, CSX, Santa Fe, and Union Pacific bought them, and many are still in mainline and heavy - haul freight service. After mergers, they're also seen with Norfolk Southern and BNSF. Upgraded features (2024 or later) include metal couplers, improved headlight/ditchlight color and brightness, independently controlled lit number boards and marker lights, better windshield glazing, etched metal windshield wipers, and a new cab side without sunshade mount track for appropriate road names. Key features are ditch lights, number boards, a realistic die - cast underframe, factory - equipped AccuMate® knuckle couplers, and a motor with dual flywheels for great performance. The Atlas Master™ Series Gold has additional features like support for all DCC - programming modes and flexible function key mapping. The ESU LokSound offers over 20 sound effects, user - selectable horns and bells, and manual and automatic notching modes for realism.
Using your Atlas HO scale DASH 8 - 40C model train is easy. First, connect it to your DCC system following the system's instructions. You can control the train's speed, direction, and activate the sound effects using the DCC controller. For the best experience, run the train on a track with a minimum radius of 22 inches. When handling the train, be gentle to avoid damaging the delicate parts like the separately - installed scale windshield wipers, metal grab irons, and fine scale handrails. Keep the train away from dust and moisture. If it gets dirty, use a soft, dry cloth to clean the body. For the metal parts, you can use a mild metal cleaner occasionally to prevent rust. When not in use, store the train in a cool, dry place. The DCC system and sound functionality have been designed to follow NMRA standards, so you can trust their reliability. But if you face any issues, refer to the DCC system's manual or contact the manufacturer for support.
