Description
This HO scale Atlas 20004669 11,000-gallon tank car with platform represents Columbia Southern SACX #994 in gray, black, and red. Note that the picture might show a different road number. Propane or Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a natural and refining by - product. In the 1940s, the petroleum industry started promoting LPG as a cleaner and more efficient fuel than coal and oil. Transporting LPG needs specially designed high - pressure tank cars. In the early 40s, the only qualified ACF tank car was the 10,500 - gallon high - pressure one. After the war, ACF designed a new 11,000 - gallon tank car in 1947, and thousands were built until the mid - 1950s. The Atlas model precisely replicates this late steam/early diesel era tank car in two versions: with and without platform rails. Cars with top platform rails were used when there was no elevated loading/unloading facility, while those without were for customers with such facilities. Features include finely molded handrails, tank fittings and safety placards, 50 - ton friction - bearing trucks with AccuMate® couplers, accurate painting and lettering, and a platform when appropriate.

Using this tank car model is easy. Just place it on your HO scale train track and couple it with other cars using the AccuMate® couplers. When displaying, you can choose the version with or without platform rails according to your layout design. For maintenance, keep it in a dry and clean place to prevent dust and dirt from accumulating on the handrails, tank fittings, and safety placards. If it gets dirty, use a soft brush to gently clean the details. Avoid dropping or hitting the model, as it may damage the finely molded parts like the handrails. When storing, make sure to store it in a box or a display case to protect it from accidental damage.
