Description
The Atlas 10004210 DASH 8-40C Pan Am #7534 is a remarkable HO scale model featuring front ditch lights, DCC & Sound. The picture might show a different road number. First built for Union Pacific in the late 1980s by General Electric, these diesel locomotives have an enlarged exhaust stack and unique dynamic brake grids. The 4,000 hp six-axle engines are still in service in North America. The Dash 8-40CW, produced from 1989 - 1993, introduced the wide-nose 'North American Safety Cab'. It's widely used by major railroads and still in regular freight service. Upgraded features (2024 or later) include metal couplers, improved lighting, independently controlled lit number and marker lights, better windshield glazing, etched metal wipers, and a new cab side. Standard features are ditch lights, realistic die-cast underframe, AccuMate® couplers, and more. The Atlas Master™ Series Gold has great DCC support, and the ESU LokSound offers over 20 sound effects.
Using your Atlas DASH 8-40C locomotive is easy. First, make sure your DCC system is set up properly. You can control the locomotive's speed and direction using the DCC controller. The function keys (F0 - F31) can be used to activate various features like ditch lights, bells, and horns. When starting the engine, select the appropriate mode in the ESU LokSound system for a realistic experience. For maintenance, keep the locomotive clean. Use a soft brush to remove dust from the body, wheels, and underframe. Check the couplers regularly to ensure they are working smoothly. If the lighting seems dim, it might be time to replace the bulbs. Store the locomotive in a dry place to prevent rust. Remember, the recommended minimum radius for operation is 22 inches, so make sure your track layout meets this requirement.
