The Walthers Mainline 910 - 21012 is an amazing HO scale model of the EMD SD70M from Norfolk Southern, numbered #2588, and it comes with DCC & Sound features. When using Walthers - branded DCC - equipped locomotives in DC mode, don't use power packs over 18V, like MRC 1300 - series power packs which have decoder issues. This model has road - specific details such as a high headlight, HTCR - 1b trucks, and a solid nose door without a window. The WalthersMainline SD70M can bring great power to your HO railroad. Introduced in 1992 and built until 2004, it's a 'modified' version of the EMD SD70 with a wide nose and North American Safety Cab. Our layout - ready models have many features: all - new tooling, a limited - quantity one - time run of these road numbers, a correct North American Safety Cab, flush radiators like early production units, correct HTCR - 1a or HTCR - 1b trucks, a brass Nathan K5 air horn, treadplate details on walkways, a minimum radius of 18' (22' or larger recommended), and are fully assembled. The LED lighting includes high or low headlight as per the prototype, improved working front ditch lights, and constant and directional lights. It's available with ESU Sound & DCC for both DCC and DC powered layouts. You can change four air horns (K5LAR24, P5R24, K3LA2, K3L) and two bells (Graham E - bell, Steel Bell) by CVs. It also has a 21 - Pin DCC plug and a powerful drive like WalthersProto(R) locos, with a 5 - pole skew - wound motor, 14:1 gear ratio, helical - cut gears for quiet and easy multiple unit operation, all - wheel drive and electrical pickup, dual machined brass flywheels, and a heavy die - cast metal chassis. There's a cab interior, a 5000 - gallon fuel tank with road - specific details, a standard bell on the conductor's side, molded drill starter points for grab irons (you can add them easily with the SD70 - Series Diesel Detail Kit, sold separately), correct size RP - 25 metal wheels, and Proto MAX(TM) magnetic metal knuckle couplers.

Using this Walthers HO scale model train is a breeze. For DCC - equipped locomotives, you can operate them on both DCC and DC powered layouts. But if you're using it in DC mode, make sure to use a power pack with a rating of 18V or less. Avoid using MRC 1300 - series power packs as they may cause issues with the decoder. When setting up your layout, keep in mind the minimum radius of 18', though a 22' or larger radius is recommended for better operation. To maintain your model, you can gently clean it with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. If you want to add grab irons, you can use the SD70 - Series Diesel Detail Kit (sold separately) and follow the simple instructions on the kit. Enjoy running your amazing model train on your HO railroad!
