Description
The Athearn ATH18434 is a remarkable HO scale model of the NACC 50' box car, specifically numbered HAMX Hamm's #31233. This model comes with a host of great features. It offers three road numbers for added variety. The applied metal grab irons and etched end platforms give it a realistic look. You can choose between Pullman Standard or Superior plug doors, and the roof is either Pullman Standard or Stanray (Superior) to match the prototype. The Ready-To-Roll 70 ton trucks ensure smooth operation. The machined 33” metal wheels with RP25 contours provide excellent performance. It has body-mounted McHenry® operating scale knuckle couplers and is weighted for optimum performance. With a minimum radius of 18”, it can fit well in various track layouts. The 1960s was a significant era for railroading, and the North American Car Corporation's 50’ outside post, insulated, plug door box car was a forward - thinking design. Many railroads used these cars, often leased to private shippers. The NACC cars were known for their complex and colorful paint schemes, at a time when modern freight handling and certain leasing trends were still in the future.

Using this Athearn HO scale box car is easy. Just place it on your HO scale track and it's ready to roll thanks to the Ready - To - Roll trucks. You can couple it with other cars using the McHenry® knuckle couplers. When setting up your track, make sure the minimum radius is at least 18 inches to avoid any derailment issues. For maintenance, you can use a soft, dry cloth to gently clean the car's body. Avoid using harsh chemicals as they may damage the paint or the metal parts. Check the wheels regularly for any dirt or debris and clean them carefully. Also, make sure the couplers are moving freely and lubricate them lightly if needed. Keep the car in a dry place when not in use to prevent rusting of the metal components.
