Description
This N Scale Kato 4-8-8-4 Big Boy is a model of the huge Union Pacific steam locomotive restored for the railroad's 150th anniversary. Built by the American Locomotive Company from 1941 - 1944, the Union Pacific was the only buyer, with 25 massive 600 - ton engines. The 4 - 8 - 8 - 4 wheel setup offers great stability and power. The original engines were coal - powered, and #4014 was converted to oil after retirement. Most Big Boys retired in 1959, but eight remain in 2022. #4014 was rebuilt and is now the world's largest, most powerful operating steam locomotive. This model uses two coreless motors in dual articulated metal mechanisms to power 16 driving wheels. Like the real engine, it can navigate 11 - radius curves. It has pickup from both the drive sections and the tender for better electrical coverage. It comes with a factory - installed DCC decoder for realistic motor and lighting control. Note: Pictures may show a different road number.

Using your Kato N Scale 4 - 8 - 4 Big Boy locomotive is easy. First, make sure your track is clean and properly connected. Then, place the locomotive on the track and use your DCC controller to start it moving. You can control the speed and direction, and also enjoy the realistic lighting effects. When it comes to maintenance, regularly clean the wheels and the electrical contacts on the locomotive and tender to ensure good conductivity. Store it in a dry place to prevent rust. If you notice any problems, check the connections first. Also, be careful when handling it to avoid damaging the delicate parts. And remember, the pictures might show a different road number, but the functionality remains the same.
