Description
The Atlas Gold 10004280 is a stunning HO scale model of the GE U30B CSX #5356, with an ex-Chessie paint - scheme in yellow, blue, and vermillion. It comes with DCC & Sound capabilities. Note that the picture might show a different road number. Powered by a V16 FDL prime mover with 3,000 h.p., the U30B was GE's response to popular locomotives like EMD's GP40 and ALCO's C430. Between 1966 and 1975, GE built 295 U30Bs. This is a 'phase 2' U30B, recognized by the evenly - built hood below the radiator. It can be told apart from the U23B by two sets of four tall engine access doors near the long - hood center. It had various trucks during production. Norfolk & Western was the biggest phase 2 U30B owner with 75 units, all with high short hoods. Other major owners were C&O, Frisco, and Western Pacific. Today, few of these locomotives are still in service. The model has great features like a snow plow (when suitable), separately - applied scale details such as windshield wipers and metal grab irons. It has a five - pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels for smooth performance at all speeds, directional lighting with golden - white LEDs, and blackened metal wheels. Special features include an optional high short hood, optional low nose headlights, and different cabs and trucks based on the road name. The Atlas Master Series Gold features an ESU LokSound decoder, flexible function key mapping, compliance with NMRA DCC standards, and over 20 sound effects. Remember, due to the sound system's high starting voltage, you can't MU a non - sound - equipped loco in DC (analog) mode.
Using this Atlas Gold HO scale GE U30B CSX #5356 model is a breeze. First, make sure your layout supports DCC & Sound operation if you want to enjoy the full features. If you're using DC (analog) mode, keep in mind that you can't couple it with a non - sound - equipped loco because of the high starting voltage of the sound system. When setting it on the tracks, handle it gently to avoid damaging the separately - applied scale detail parts like windshield wipers and metal grab irons. For maintenance, regularly clean the metal wheels with a soft, dry cloth to ensure smooth movement on the tracks. You can also use a mild cleaner if there's stubborn dirt. Keep the model in a dry and dust - free place when not in use. When programming the DCC decoder, follow the instructions that come with the ESU LokSound decoder. Don't expose the model to extreme temperatures or humidity, as this can damage the electronics and the paint job. Enjoy your new model and have fun with your train layout!
