Description
The Atlas Gold 10004278 presents the GE U30B BN Burlington Northern #5779 in HO scale, with DCC & Sound. The picture might show a different road number. Powered by a V16 FDL prime mover, this 3,000 h.p. locomotive was GE's response to EMD's GP40 and ALCO's C430. GE built 295 U30Bs from 1966 - 1975. This is a 'phase 2' U30B, recognizable by the evenly - built hood below the radiator. It can be distinguished from the U23B by two sets of four tall engine access doors. It had various trucks during production. Norfolk & Western owned 75 phase 2 U30Bs with high short hoods. Other major owners were C&O, Frisco, and Western Pacific. Few of these locomotives are still in service. Features include a snow plow (when appropriate), separately - applied scale detail parts like windshield wipers and grab irons, a five - pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels, directional lighting with golden - white LEDs, and blackened metal wheels. Special features are an optional high short hood, low nose headlights, a low nose cab with appropriate headlight housing, and suitable trucks per road name. The Atlas Master Series Gold has an ESU LokSound decoder, flexible function key mapping, follows NMRA DCC standards, and offers over 20 sound effects. Note: Non - sound locos can't be MUed in DC (analog) mode due to the sound system's high starting voltage.
Using your Atlas Gold GE U30B locomotive is straightforward. First, make sure your track is clean and the power supply is properly connected. If you're using DCC, program the locomotive according to your DCC system's instructions. The sound system adds a great touch to your model railroad experience, but remember, in DC (analog) mode, you can't run a non - sound - equipped loco with this one because of the high starting voltage needed for the sound. When it comes to maintenance, regularly clean the wheels with a soft, dry cloth to ensure good electrical contact. Check the scale detail parts like windshield wipers and grab irons for any loose pieces and re - attach them if necessary. Store the locomotive in a dry, cool place to prevent any damage. Also, if you want to change the trucks or other optional features, follow the included instructions carefully to avoid any breakage.
