Description
The Atlas 10004196 DASH 8 - 40C HO scale model train locomotive represents Cimarron Valley #4053 in blue and yellow. Note that the picture might show a different road number. First built for Union Pacific in the late 1980s by General Electric, these six - axle, 4,000 hp DASH 8 - 40C diesel locomotives are still in service in North America. They feature an enlarged exhaust stack and dynamic brake grids in a square - like unit behind the cab. The Dash 8 - 40CW, a follow - up from 1989 to 1993, introduced GE’s wide - nose 'North American Safety Cab' and was bought by major railroads. Many are still used for mainline and heavy - haul freight. Upgraded features (2024 or later) include metal couplers, improved lighting, independently controlled lit number and marker boards, better windshield glazing, etched metal wipers, and a new cab side for some road names. Standard features are ditch lights, realistic die - cast underframe, factory - equipped AccuMate® knuckle couplers, and more. The Atlas Master™ Series Gold has DCC - programming support and flexible function key mapping. The ESU LokSound offers over 20 sound effects, multiple user - selectable horns, bells, and brake squeals, and manual and automatic notching modes for realism.
Using this HO scale model train locomotive is easy. First, make sure your track is clean and properly connected. Place the locomotive on the track and power it up. You can control it with a DCC system, which allows you to adjust speed and use various functions. When using the sound feature, explore the different sound effects available, like engine start - up and the horn. For maintenance, regularly clean the wheels and couplers with a soft cloth to ensure smooth operation. Avoid using harsh chemicals on the locomotive. Store it in a dry place away from direct sunlight and dust. When handling the locomotive, be gentle to prevent any damage to the delicate parts like the windshield wipers and handrails. If you want to change the couplers, refer to the manufacturer's instructions carefully as the coupler pocket is designed to accept specific types of couplers.
