Description
The Kato 176 - 4378 EMD NW2 in N Scale represents Burlington Northern #543, dressed in a sharp Cascade Green, black, and white color scheme. Note that the picture might show a different road number. This switcher is perfect for your railroad, from the late - steam era right up to today. The NW2 was first built in the early 1940s, but its production almost stopped just three years after its debut due to the War Production Board in 1942. It ordered EMD to stop making switching locomotives and focus on road diesels from 1942 to 1945. After the restriction ended, it became popular again, and many railroads placed orders. Even in 2024, some of these 1000hp locomotives are still working in rail yards. The Kato N scale NW2 replica is highly detailed with an accurate body. It has a flywheel - equipped drive for low - speed, high - power pulling. Directional headlights don't intrude on the cab detail. It comes with low - profile wheels for Code 55 and larger rails, illuminated number boards, and Kato magnetic knuckle couplers. You can swap the lighting control board for a DCC decoder later (sold separately). It can handle 9 - 3/4' radius curves, but larger curves are better.
Using this Kato N Scale EMD NW2 locomotive is a breeze. Just connect it to your standard DC power source to get it running on your track. When operating, remember that while it can handle curves as sharp as 9 - 3/4' radius, using larger curves will give it a smoother ride. For maintenance, keep it clean. You can use a soft, dry cloth to wipe off any dust or dirt. Check the wheels regularly to make sure they're not damaged or clogged with debris. If you plan to upgrade to DCC operation, simply swap the lighting control board with a DCC decoder (which you'll need to buy separately). Be careful when handling the decoder and follow the installation instructions carefully. Also, store the locomotive in a dry place to prevent any rust or damage. With proper use and care, this locomotive will provide you with many hours of enjoyment on your railroad.
