Description
The FVM 10142 Trinity RD-4 Coal Hopper from Fox Valley Models in N Scale represents the UP Union Pacific/Building America #503772. Note that the picture might show a different road number. This 4200 cubic foot modern aluminum hopper car was built starting in the mid - 1990s and is still in service today. Railroads and public utilities use it in unit trains to transport coal from fields to power plants or ports for export. The FVM RD - 4 Hopper - UP comes with new road numbers, suitable for the era from 2003 to present. It's part of the 503600 - 503959 series, built from Oct 03 to Jan 04. It's fully assembled with a detailed plastic body and die - cast weight with interior detail. The removable coal load, detailed free - rolling trucks with 36” machined metal wheels, and body - mounted operating knuckle couplers (Micro - Trains® compatible) add to its appeal. The printing and lettering are clear even under magnification, and it's weighted to industry standards for reliable operation. It operates on Code 55, 70, and 80 rail, comes in a clear jewel box for safe storage, and has a minimum radius of 9 ¾” and a recommended radius of 11”. Coal transport by train has evolved over time, and the Trinity RD - 4 is a great example of modern coal hopper design with its rapid discharge feature and wide range of paint schemes.

Using your Fox Valley Models N Scale FVM 10142 Trinity RD - 4 Coal Hopper is easy. Just place it on Code 55, 70, or 80 rail and watch it roll. Remember, the minimum radius for operation is 9 ¾ inches, but we recommend an 11 - inch radius for smoother running. When it comes to the removable coal load, you can take it out to show the interior details or put it back in for a more realistic look. For maintenance, keep it clean. You can use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the body and wheels. Avoid getting the model wet as it might damage the paint and interior details. The body - mounted operating knuckle couplers are Micro - Trains® compatible, so make sure to handle them gently to prevent any breakage. Store your model in the clear jewel box provided to keep it safe from dust and accidental damage.
