Description
The Fox Valley Models N Scale FVM 10081 Trinity RD - 4 Coal Hopper is a detailed model representing the C&NW Chicago & NorthWestern with road number #880107. Note that the picture might show a different road number. The real - life Trinity RD - 4 Coal hopper, built since the mid - 1990s and still in use today, is a 4200 - cubic - foot modern aluminum car. Railroads and public utilities use these cars in unit trains to transport coal from coal fields to power plants or export ports. This FVM RD - 4 Hopper for C&NW comes with new road numbers, suitable for the era from 1994 to the present. It belongs to the series 880000 – 880249, built from April to May 1994. It's fully assembled with a detailed plastic body and die - cast weight with interior details. The modeler can apply interior braces. It has a removable coal load, detailed free - rolling trucks, and 36” machined metal wheels. The body - mounted operating knuckle couplers are Micro - Trains® compatible. The printing and lettering are clear even under magnification. Weighted to industry standards, it operates smoothly on Code 55, 70, and 80 rail. It comes in a clear jewel box for safe storage. The minimum radius for operation is 9 ¾”, and the recommended radius is 11”. Coal transportation by train has evolved over time, and the aluminum body has become a standard for modern coal hoppers. The prototype RD - 4 car has a large 4200 - cubic - foot capacity and can be emptied quickly either as a conventional bottom - dump car or with a rotary dumper thanks to its rotary couplers.

Using this Fox Valley Models N Scale FVM 10081 Trinity RD - 4 Coal Hopper is easy. Just place it on your track with a radius of at least 9 ¾ inches, though 11 inches is recommended. It can run on Code 55, 70, and 80 rail. You can add or remove the coal load as you like. When handling it, be gentle as it has detailed parts. To keep it in good condition, store it in the provided clear jewel box when not in use. Regularly check the wheels and couplers for any dirt or damage. If the printing or lettering fades over time, you might want to display it in a place away from direct sunlight. And remember, if you're planning to use it with other train models, the body - mounted operating knuckle couplers are Micro - Trains® compatible, so it should work well with them.
