Description
This is the Atlas Gold 10004281 GE U30B locomotive, representing Georgia Central #1002 in gray and black, in HO scale. The picture might show a different road number. Powered by a V16 FDL prime mover, the 3,000 h.p. U30B was GE's response to popular locomotives like EMD's GP40 and ALCO's C430. Between 1966 and 1975, GE built 295 U30Bs. This is a 'phase 2' U30B with a distinct hood below the radiator. It can be told apart from the U23B by two sets of four tall engine access doors. During production, it had various trucks. Norfolk & Western owned 75 phase 2 U30Bs. Many are no longer in service today. Features include a snow plow, separately - applied scale details, a five - pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels, directional lighting, and blackened metal wheels. Special features are an optional high short hood, optional low nose headlights, and different cabs and trucks based on the road name. The Atlas Master Series Gold comes with an ESU LokSound decoder, flexible function key mapping, and over 20 sound effects. Note that in DC (analog) mode, you can't MU a non - sound - equipped loco due to the sound system's high starting voltage.
Using this locomotive is a breeze. First, make sure you've connected it to a suitable DCC system that supports the ESU LokSound decoder. When starting it up, give it a little time for the sound system to initialize. The directional lighting will automatically adjust based on the direction of movement. You can use the function keys to access different sound effects like the bell or air horn. For maintenance, keep the locomotive clean. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe off any dust. Check the wheels regularly for dirt or debris, and clean them gently if needed. Avoid using harsh chemicals on the locomotive. Remember, because of the high starting voltage of the sound system, don't try to MU a non - sound - equipped loco in DC (analog) mode. Also, store the locomotive in a dry and cool place when not in use to keep it in good condition.
