Description
The Atlas Gold 10004277 is a stunning HO scale model of the GE U30B locomotive, specifically representing Burlington Northern #5777 in Cascade Green and black. The picture might show a different road number. Powered by a V16 FDL prime mover with 3,000 h.p., the U30B was GE's response to popular locomotives like the EMD GP40 and ALCO C430. From 1966 to 1975, GE built 295 of these locomotives. This is a 'phase 2' U30B, recognizable by the evenly - built hood below the radiator. You can tell it apart from the U23B by the two sets of four tall engine access doors near the long - hood center. During production, it had various trucks. Major owners included Norfolk & Western, C&O, Frisco, and Western Pacific. Now, few are still in service. This model comes with great features like a snow plow (when appropriate), separately - applied scale details such as windshield wipers and metal grab irons. It has a five - pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels for smooth performance at all speeds, directional lighting with golden - white LEDs, and blackened metal wheels. Special features include an optional high short hood, low nose headlights, and different trucks per road name. The Atlas Master Series Gold version has an ESU LokSound decoder, flexible function key mapping, and over 20 sound effects. Note that due to the sound system's higher starting voltage, you can't MU a non - sound loco in DC (analog) mode.
Using this Atlas Gold HO scale GE U30B locomotive model is easy. First, make sure you have a compatible power source for the DCC system. If you're using it in DC mode, remember you can't couple a non - sound - equipped loco due to the sound system's voltage requirements. When setting up the model on your track, be gentle with the separately - applied scale detail parts like the windshield wipers and metal grab irons to avoid breakage. For maintenance, keep the locomotive clean. You can use a soft, dry cloth to wipe off dust from the body and wheels. Periodically check the motor and decoder for any signs of overheating or malfunction. Store the model in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If you want to change the sound effects or function key mapping, refer to the ESU LokSound decoder manual for detailed instructions.
