The 4 LED-friendly outputs make it simple to attach the LEDs without using external resistors. When it comes to power, make sure the DCC track voltage is between 7.5V - 22V. For maintenance, keep the decoder and speaker clean. Avoid getting them wet. If you're not using the locomotive for a long time, it's a good idea to store it in a dry place.
