The Atlas 50004896 is a fantastic N scale model of a 42-foot coil steel car from Norfolk Southern Class CS 24, numbered #170261. It comes in a cool gray color and has no cover. Note that the picture might show a different road number. As the demand for coiled steel transportation grew, a new type of freight car was developed. Before, coiled steel was usually transported in specially equipped gondola cars. In the 1960s, a lighter car emerged to haul steel coils in an integral trough. This car type became very popular, with over 17,000 built. Atlas' model replicates a 42' design with a unique fishbelly side sill.
