Description
This is an Atlas HO scale model train, the DASH 8 - 40C Union Pacific #9105. It features front ditch lights, DCC, and sound. The locomotive has a yellow, gray, and red frame stripe. Note that the picture might show a different road number. Built by General Electric for Union Pacific in the late 1980s, the DASH 8 - 40C diesel locomotives had an enlarged exhaust stack and dynamic brake grids in a square - like unit behind the cab with an enlarged equipment blower fan. These 4,000 hp six - axle engines are still in service in North America. The 4,000hp Dash 8 - 40CW, a follow - up to the Dash 8 - 40C, was produced from 1989 to 1993. It introduced GE’s wide - nose “North American Safety Cab,” which became common on railroads. Major railroads like Conrail, CSX, Santa Fe, and Union Pacific bought it in large quantities, and many are still in mainline and heavy - haul freight service. After mergers, they can also be seen with Norfolk Southern and BNSF. Upgraded features (2024 or later) include metal couplers, improved headlight/ditchlight color and brightness, independently controlled lit number boards and marker lights, improved windshield glazing, etched metal windshield wipers, and a new cab side without sunshade mount track for appropriate road names. Other features are ditch lights, number boards, sand fill hatch, and marker lights (8 - 40CW only), a realistic die - cast underframe, factory - equipped AccuMate® knuckle couplers, a coupler pocket for AccuMate® Proto - couplers, highly detailed coupler cut bars, multiple unit and trainline hoses, a five - pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels for great performance at all speeds, separately - installed scale windshield wipers, metal grab irons and fine scale handrails, directional lighting, painted crew members, snowplow and piping on trucks, and a recommended minimum radius of 22”. The Atlas Master™ Series Gold has additional features like support for all DCC - programming modes, flexible mapping of function keys F0 to F31, and compliance with all NMRA DCC standards. The ESU LokSound offers over 20 sound effects, 16 user - selectable horns, 2 user - selectable bells, and 2 user - selectable synchronized brake squeals, as well as manual and automatic notching modes for a realistic experience.
Using this Atlas model train is easy. First, make sure your DCC system is set up correctly. You can then connect the train to the tracks and start it up using your DCC controller. To use the sound features, just press the corresponding function keys on your controller. When operating, keep in mind the recommended minimum radius of 22” to avoid derailment. For maintenance, regularly clean the wheels and track to ensure smooth operation. You can use a soft cloth or a specialized track cleaner. Check the couplers and hoses for any signs of damage or looseness. If you need to replace a coupler, the coupler pocket is designed to accept AccuMate® Proto - couplers. Store the train in a dry and cool place to prevent any damage from humidity or extreme temperatures. Enjoy your model train and have fun creating your own railroad world!
