Description
The Atlas 20006551 is a HO scale PS - 2 covered hopper representing Guilford B&M #2758, painted in gray, white, and orange. Note that the picture might show a different road number. Covered hoppers are a relatively new type of rail car. Until the 1980s, the AAR regarded them as “special” cars, and then they got their own car - type code category. These early covered hoppers were mainly built for more efficient cement loading and unloading. Before, cement was bagged and put in box cars. This two - bay covered hopper was built by Pullman - Standard from the late 1940s to the 1950s. It has eight round roof hatches for fast loading and two large gravity gates for quick commodity discharge, with a capacity of 2,003 cubic feet. Key features include 50 - ton friction bearing or 70 - ton roller bearing trucks (depending on the road name), detailed brake gear, Accumate® couplers, and prototypical painting and printing.

Using this Atlas HO scale covered hopper is easy. You can place it on your model train track just like any other car in your collection. When loading it in your model scenario, imagine using the eight round roof hatches to quickly fill it up with a simulated commodity like cement. For unloading, picture the two large gravity gates doing their job. As for maintenance, keep it clean. You can use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe away dust. Avoid using harsh chemicals as they might damage the prototypical painting and printing. When handling, be careful with the detailed brake gear and Accumate® couplers to prevent any breakage. Also, make sure the 50 - ton friction bearing or 70 - ton roller bearing trucks (depending on the road name) roll smoothly. If they seem stuck, a little bit of gentle lubrication might help.
