Description
The Atlas Gold 10004283 is a stunning HO scale model of the GE U30B WP Western Pacific #3068 in green and orange with DCC and sound. The picture might show a different road number. Powered by a V16 FDL prime mover, the 3,000 h.p. U30B was GE's response to popular locomotives like EMD's GP40 and ALCO's C430. Between 1966 and 1975, GE built 295 U30Bs. This is a 'phase 2' U30B, recognized by the evenly - built hood below the radiator. It can be distinguished from the U23B by two sets of four tall engine access doors near the long - hood center. During production, it had various trucks. Major owners included Norfolk & Western, C&O, Frisco, and Western Pacific, and few are still in service today. Features include a snow plow, separately - applied scale details, a five - pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels, directional lighting with golden - white LEDs, and blackened metal wheels. Special features are an optional high short hood, low nose headlights, a low nose cab with appropriate headlight housing, and suitable trucks per road name. The Atlas Master Series Gold comes with an ESU LokSound decoder, flexible function key mapping, NMRA compliance, and over 20 sound effects. Note that in DC (analog) mode, you can't MU a non - sound - equipped loco due to the sound system's higher starting voltage.
Using this Atlas HO scale GE U30B model is easy. First, make sure your track is clean and properly connected. If you're using DCC, program the decoder according to your preference using the flexible function key mapping. For normal operation, just power up your track and watch the locomotive go. When it comes to the sound system, enjoy over 20 different sound effects like engine start - up and shutdown. But remember, because of the higher starting voltage for the sound system, you can't couple a non - sound - equipped loco in DC mode. For maintenance, regularly clean the metal wheels with a soft, dry cloth to keep the electrical contact good. Check the separately - applied scale detail parts from time to time to ensure they're still attached. Store the locomotive in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture to prevent any damage.
