Description
Digitrax AR1 is an ideal auto reverser for all-scale DCC layouts. Part # 245-AR1. Note that AR1 is a mechanical relay. If you're using a newer system, consider the BXPA1, a newer solid-state auto reverser as AR1 may be too slow for new systems.
It offers the easiest and most cost-effective way to add automatic reversing to one section of your DCC layout.
AR1 Features:
Cost-efficient automatic reversing for a single reversing section or subdistrict
You can select the trip current to make AR1 work with any scale or equipment on your layout
Auto-Reversing handles polarity mismatches on the reversing track without manual toggling or an extra booster
It has an 8-amp peak and 6-amp continuous auto-reversing control for one reversing district
Simple 4-wire hookup, no locomotive wiring needed
No external power required, runs on track power
AR1 works with or without LocoNet, compatible with all DCC systems
Alternatives for Automatic Reversing on Your Layout:
1. Use a double-pole, double-throw switch for manual reversing.
2. Use one Digitrax booster set for automatic reversing and another for normal operation.
3. Use a PM42 Quad Power Manager for 4 power sub-districts. You can set them for automatic reversing or to prevent short circuits.

Using the Digitrax AR1 is a breeze. First, connect it to your DCC layout with a simple 4 - wire hookup, and you don't need to wire the locomotive. It runs off the track power, so no external power source is required. To adjust it for your specific layout, you can select the trip current according to the scale and equipment you're using. When your train encounters a polarity mismatch on the reversing track section, the AR1 will automatically manage it without you having to manually throw electrical toggle switches or add another booster. But be aware that if you're using a newer system, the AR1 might not work fast enough as it's a mechanical relay. In that case, you might want to look into the BXPA1. For maintenance, keep it clean and check the connections regularly. If you're not satisfied with the automatic reversing feature of AR1, you can also consider alternatives like using a double - pole, double - throw switch, a Digitrax booster set, or a PM42 Quad Power Manager.
