The Atlas 50004878 is an N scale model of a 42-foot coil steel GE railcar with the number DLRX 166287, available in gray, blue, and red. Note that the picture might show a different road number. As the transportation of coiled steel increased, a new type of purpose-built freight car emerged. Before, coiled-steel rolls were usually transported in specially equipped gondola cars. In the 1960s, a lighter car was designed to haul steel coils in an integral trough. This car type became very popular, and over 17,000 were built.
