Description
The Atlas 20006529 NSC Newsprint Box Car represents CV Central Vermont #402224, painted in boxcar red and white with a small CV logo. It's an HO scale model, and note that the picture might show a different road number. In 1967, the National Steel Car Corporation in Hamilton, Ontario, built the first cars for dedicated newsprint transport between Canada and the US. These cars had riveted or welded sides and smooth interiors, even on the doors, to protect 2000 - pound paper rolls. The rolls were stacked two - high, so the cars needed over 9 feet of internal height. They also had large door openings with sliding Youngstown lever - type flush plug or lever - less exterior post plug doors. Seven railroads originally bought these cars, and they were in international paper shipping until the late 2000s. Over time, they had many colorful paint schemes, making them easy to spot. Key features include separately applied detail parts, accurate paint and door setups, knuckle couplers, and free - rolling Symington roller bearing trucks.
Using this HO scale Atlas NSC newsprint box car is easy. You can place it on your model train track and add it to your train consist. It will enhance the look of your layout and represent a real - world piece of railroad history. When handling the car, be gentle to avoid damaging the separately applied detail parts. Don't pull too hard on the knuckle couplers. For maintenance, you can use a soft, dry cloth to clean the car's body and remove any dust. Avoid using harsh chemicals as they might damage the paint. Store the car in a dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent the paint from fading over time.
