Description
This N Scale Atlas 50005243 Class X72 50-foot boxcar represents Western Pacific #4057 in brown and yellow. Note that the picture might show a different road number. In 1972, Penn Central and Western Pacific ordered smooth-sided box cars from US Railroad Manufacturing in Illinois. The PC's 574-car order became the 'X72' design with smooth, welded sides and a large 6-panel Superior door for forklift access. The next year, 500 slightly larger X72A box cars were ordered. These cars were used for general purposes and were common across North American railroads. After PC's end in the 70s, Conrail took them over and they ran until the 90s. Later, Conrail sold most to Canadian National, short lines, or scrappers. By the 2000s, most X72 box cars were out of service, but some still run in Mexico and South America. The X72 and X72A were important during the PC and Conrail eras and had many paint schemes. Atlas offers different looks for this car. Features include crisp painting and printing, a durable body, free-rolling trucks, a detailed brakewheel, and knuckle couplers.

Using this N Scale Atlas boxcar is easy. Just place it on your N Scale train track and connect it to other cars using the knuckle couplers. You can add it to your train manifest, either a few cars or a large group, and it will look great. When handling the boxcar, be gentle to avoid any damage to the detailed parts like the brakewheel. To keep it in good condition, regularly clean the body with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Check the free-rolling trucks from time to time to make sure they move smoothly. If the painting starts to show signs of wear, you can touch it up carefully with appropriate model paint. This way, your boxcar will keep looking sharp and running well on your railroad layout.
