Description
The Atlas Gold 10004292 is an HO scale model train of the GE U30B Norfolk & Western locomotive #8526. It comes with DCC and sound features and sports black and white colors along with a Block NW Logo. Note that the picture might show a different road number. Powered by a V16 FDL prime mover, this 3,000 h.p. locomotive was GE's response to EMD's popular GP40 and ALCO's C430. Between 1966 and 1975, GE built 295 U30Bs. This is a 'phase 2' U30B, recognizable by the evenly - built hood below the radiator. You can tell it from the U23B by two sets of four tall engine access doors near the long - hood center. The Norfolk & Western owned 75 phase 2 U30Bs, all with a high short hood. Other big owners were C&O, Frisco, and Western Pacific. Now, few are still in service. Key features include a snow plow (when fitting the road name), separately - applied scale details like windshield wipers and metal grab irons, a five - pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels for great performance, directional lighting with golden - white LEDs, and blackened metal wheels. Special features are an optional high short hood, low nose headlights, a low nose cab with appropriate headlight housing, and suitable trucks per road name. The Atlas Master Series Gold offers an ESU LokSound decoder, flexible function - key mapping, NMRA DCC compliance, and over 20 sound effects. Remember, due to the sound system's high starting voltage, you can't MU a non - sound loco in DC (analog) mode.
Using this model train is easy. First, make sure your track is set up properly and the power supply is connected. Place the locomotive on the track and power it on. Use your DCC controller to operate the train, controlling its speed and direction. You can also use the controller to access the sound functions and other features. When it comes to maintenance, keep the locomotive clean. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe away dust and debris. Check the wheels regularly for any dirt or damage. If the wheels get dirty, you can clean them gently with a small brush. For the decoder and sound system, avoid exposing the locomotive to extreme temperatures or moisture as this can damage the electronics. Also, be careful when handling the separately - applied scale detail parts like the windshield wipers and grab irons as they can be delicate. When not in use, store the locomotive in a cool, dry place. And don't forget the note about the sound system: you can't couple a non - sound - equipped loco in DC (analog) mode because of the high starting voltage required for the sound system.
