Description
The Atlas 10004238 EMD GP40 - 2 HO scale model train locomotive, representing Atlanta & St. Andrews Bay #6416, comes with front and rear ditch lights in green and yellow. Note that the picture might show a different road number. The GP40 - 2 is EMD's successor to the highly successful GP40. It has both internal upgrades like better modular Dash 2 electrical parts and external differences from the late - production GP40, such as an engine water - level sight glass on the right side. Powered by a 16 - cylinder EMD 645 - series diesel engine with 3,000 horsepower, early to mid - phase 2 units from 1976 - 1979 have distinct features. This model has great features including golden - white LEDs, a realistic die - cast underframe, and a high - performance motor. It also offers various DCC and analog operation features, and over 20 sound effects for an immersive experience.
Using your Atlas EMD GP40 - 2 model train locomotive is easy. First, decide whether you'll use DCC or analog (DC) operation. For DCC, make sure your system supports all the programming modes this locomotive offers. You can map function keys F0 to F28 as you like and use the six available DCC function outputs. If you choose analog (DC) operation, note that the LokSound Select Dual - Mode decoder allows use on DC layouts, but the Atlas Quantum Engineer won't work with a locomotive having this decoder on an analog layout. Also, on a DC - powered layout, don't pair this DCC and sound - equipped locomotive with one without both features. When it comes to sound, you have over 20 sound effects to enjoy. You can select different horns, bells, and brake squeals, and switch between manual and automatic notching modes while the train is running. For maintenance, keep the locomotive clean. Wipe it gently with a soft cloth to remove dust. Check the underframe and moving parts regularly to make sure they're in good condition. If you notice any issues with the lighting, sound, or movement, consult the manufacturer's support for assistance.
