The Atlas 10004202 HO Scale DASH 8-40C diesel locomotive represents Rock Island Rail #2127, featuring red and yellow front and rear ditch lights, DCC, and sound. Note that the picture might show a different road number. First built for Union Pacific in the late 1980s by General Electric, these six-axle, 4,000 hp engines, identified by an enlarged exhaust stack and square-like dynamic brake grids behind the cab, are still in service in North America. The 4,000hp Dash 8-40CW, produced from 1989 - 1993, introduced GE’s wide-nose 'North American Safety Cab' and was bought by major railroads. Many units are still in mainline and heavy-haul freight service and can be seen under new owners. Upgraded features (2024 or later) include metal couplers, improved lighting, independently controlled lit number and marker lights, better windshield glazing, etched metal wipers, and a new cab side.
