Description
The Atlas 10004208 DASH 8 - 40C CSX #7586 in HO Scale comes in YN2 livery with gray, blue, and yellow colors. It features front ditch lights, DCC, and sound. Note that the picture might show a different road number. The DASH 8 - 40C diesel locomotives, first built for Union Pacific by General Electric in the late 1980s, are recognized by an enlarged exhaust stack and square - like dynamic brake grids behind the cab with an enlarged equipment blower fan. These 4,000 hp six - axle engines are still in use in North America. The 4,000hp Dash 8 - 40CW, produced from 1989 to 1993, introduced GE’s wide - nose 'North American Safety Cab' and was bought by major railroads like Conrail, CSX, Santa Fe, and Union Pacific. Many are still in mainline and heavy - haul freight service and can be seen with new owners due to mergers. Upgraded features (2024 or later) include metal couplers, improved headlight/ditchlight color and brightness, independently controlled lit number boards and marker lights, better windshield glazing, etched metal windshield wipers, and a new cab side for some road names. Other features are ditch lights, number boards, a realistic die - cast underframe, AccuMate® knuckle couplers, and more. The Atlas Master™ Series Gold offers support for all DCC - programming modes and flexible function key mapping. The ESU LokSound provides over 20 sound effects, user - selectable horns and bells, and manual and automatic notching modes for a realistic experience.
Using your Atlas DASH 8 - 40C locomotive is easy. First, make sure your DCC system is set up correctly according to the instructions that came with it. Connect the locomotive to the track and power on the system. You can use the DCC controller to start the engine, control its speed, and activate the sound effects. For the sound, you can select different horns, bells, and other effects through the ESU LokSound functionality. When operating, keep in mind the recommended minimum radius of 22 inches for smooth running. As for maintenance, regularly clean the wheels and track to ensure good electrical contact. Check the couplers for any signs of wear and replace them if necessary. Also, avoid exposing the locomotive to extreme temperatures or moisture. If you need to store it, keep it in a dry and dust - free place. If you encounter any issues, refer to the product manual or contact Atlas customer support.
