Description
This HO scale Atlas 10004198 DASH 8-40C CSX #7636 model train comes with front ditch lights, DCC & Sound. The picture might show a different road number. First built for Union Pacific in the late 1980s by General Electric, the DASH 8-40C diesel locomotives have an enlarged exhaust stack and dynamic brake grids in a square - like unit behind the cab with an enlarged equipment blower fan. These 4,000 hp six - axle engines are still in use in North America. The 4,000hp Dash 8 - 40CW, produced from 1989 to 1993, introduced GE’s wide - nose ‘North American Safety Cab’. It was bought by major railroads like Conrail, CSX, Santa Fe, and Union Pacific and is still used for mainline and heavy - haul freight. After mergers, it can be seen with Norfolk Southern and BNSF. Upgraded features (2024 or later) include metal couplers, improved headlight/ditchlight color and brightness, independently controlled lit number boards and marker lights, improved windshield glazing, etched metal windshield wipers, and a new cab side without sunshade mount track. Standard features are ditch lights, number boards, a realistic die - cast underframe, factory - equipped AccuMate® knuckle couplers, and more. The Atlas Master™ Series Gold offers support for all DCC - programming modes, flexible function key mapping, and follows NMRA DCC standards. The ESU LokSound has over 20 sound effects, 16 user - selectable horns, 2 user - selectable bells, and 2 user - selectable synchronized brake squeals, plus manual and automatic notching modes.
Using this model train is easy. First, make sure you have a suitable DCC system that's compatible with the train's DCC & Sound features. Connect the train to the track and power it up. You can use the DCC controller to operate the train, controlling its speed, direction, and activate the sound effects like the bell, horn, and engine noises. For the upgraded features, the independently controlled lit number boards and marker lights can be adjusted through the DCC system. When it comes to maintenance, keep the train clean. Use a soft brush to remove dust from the body, wheels, and couplers. Check the couplers regularly to ensure they're in good condition. The metal couplers are durable but can get dirty, so clean them gently. Avoid using harsh chemicals on the train as they may damage the paint or the delicate parts. Also, store the train in a dry and cool place when not in use. The recommended minimum radius for the track is 22 inches, so make sure your layout meets this requirement to prevent derailments.
